For the past 15 years Tom Scrase has been working as a successful musician in New Zealand with the last 10 in his hometown of Wellington.

As a performer, Tom has been very fortunate to tour with several bands with many highlights including performing and recording with Harbour City Electric and performing with The Thomas Oliver Band on the last Joe Cocker and Cold Chisel NZ shows. Tom has also supported Jimmy Barnes, Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Black Seeds and The Phoenix Foundation.

The Thomas Oliver Band’s album “Baby, I’ll Play” was released in March 2011 and reached #1 on the New Zealand and Australian iTunes Blues charts.

For the last two years Tom has been performing full time with New Zealand’s leading Percussion Ensemble Strike. With over 200 concerts in both 2013 and 2014 including at the Christchurch Arts Festival, Nelson Arts Festival and the New Zealand Festival in Wellington, Strike have also taken their show Elemental internationally at the International Percussion Festival in Seoul, South Korea (2012) and shows in Shanghai, China (2013) at festivals promoting Percussion and New Zealand music.

Tom counts as one of his best recordings Andrew Moore‘s EP Cities By The Sea. Recorded while studying together at the NZSM campus in Wellington, it showcases Andrew’s brilliant songwriting and arrangement and a variety of percussion skills.

Tom has gained a lot of production knowledge and excellent people skills through working on a variety of large productions with professionals from theatre, lighting, sound and set construction.

He’s built a strong reputation as a successful teacher of percussion with Strike (Batterie 100) and as a Sole Trader teaching drums in Wellington. Tom has also successfully taught the P.A. module at both H.I.B.S. and Sacred Heart College as well as teaching drums at Hutt Intermediate, Hutt Valley High School, Heretaunga College, Strathallan College and Rosehill College. Tom is now the drum tutor to Certificate and Diploma students (Contemporary Music) at UCOL in Palmerston North.
